• Mussel, Crayfish or Squid Ecobait NOT AVAILABLE
Mussel, crayfish or squid fish bait incorporating gauze for bait retention. The bait (approx. 30-40 baits) is equal to 2-4kgs of pilchard or squid bait (costing $30-$60) as it resists coming off the hook and copes with many fish attacks due to the gauze strength. Also, it's very adaptive: if you prefer a lure type presentation it can be cut into long, slim triangles (up to 160cm long) and used exactly like a lure (with the addition of a hook and sinker). You then have the added benefit of a very effective attractant. This is the best of both modes of fishing, a bait/lure combination with attractant. Also, it can be beneficial to add a small piece of this bait to any metal lure or slider (see ‘Grant Dixon says’ observation on the Observation Page).
• Fish Chocolate / Super attractant AVAILABLE
Fish Chocolate Super Attractant squeeze bottle and/or dunking pot. Combined together with the open weave gauze, has a catch rate potential equivalent to 2-4kgs of pilchard or squid. The idea is to cut off a piece of gauze with scissors (knife not recommended) to your preferred shape or size (lure or bait) then spread the attractant into the gauze or dunk into the pot. The gauze will last many fish attacks and replenishment of the attractant is simple.
Consisting of squid attractant, addition of other flavours can be utilised to target a variety of species, for example crab or crayfish. This attractant has proved to be a super attractant for recreational fishermen. The Fish Chocolate attractant can also be used to replenish flavour to the Ecoberley by pouring some into the berley bag.
• Revolutionary new bait system AVAILABLE
Totally breakthrough stuff. With the Fish Chocolate, as described above, together with a very tough matrix of fibre. The attractant can be smeared into the matrix creating a bait that is difficult for fish to remove, often catching many fish on the same piece of matrix by replenishing new attractant until the fibre matrix is eventually wrecked. Trials have shown the matrix, with the addition of Fish Chocolate, has repeatedly caught up to 5 or more fish before the matrix needs replacement.
FISHING TIP: to get the most productive day out fishing go out 8-10 days either side of the full moon. The rest of the time they’re probably in school and misbehaving. For more helpful information see: fishing.net.nz
• Squid Berley Bombs/Ecoberley AVAILABLE
Squid Ecoberley. Easy to use, non frozen, semi moist, quick action, compact, light (ideal for tramping or camping), long lasting (up to 4 hours Summer or Winter) due to prolonged and controlled emission of fish attractants.
The ‘diffusion bag’ controls attractant release.
We use our attractant with a bulk carrier and control diffusion rate with our specialised gelatin, Gelamax 360, as we do with all our above products. The berley does not require freezing and we are able to offer berley that lasts up to 4 hours plus or longer, if required. Commercial orders for situations like cage fishing can be made to last up to 40 – 60 hours.
• Commercial long line fishing bait
Made from Mussel, crayfish or squid. Bait is supplied in A3 slabs. Five thousand baited hooks would require about eleven slabs weighing approximately 12kgs, as opposed to 50kgs of pilchard. MPI suggest long line fishing is very sustainable, effectively targeting certain species with minimal by-catch, producing high quality export fish.
Due to Ecobait not needing to be frozen, it saves long line fishermen from getting frozen fingers during handling. It also reduces baiting time in half giving sleep depraved fishermen more time to sleep, thus a happier and safer crew.
There has been expressions of interest for the autobaiting long line fishing system, that deep water fishing boats use, due to being able to offer bait of consistent size. This helps prevent system jams and delays.
Note the small size of the bait and 5/0 hook and a 52cm snapper. Big fish can be caught on smallish hooks but you need to strike them immediately before they swallow the bait to get a lip hook, as can be observed in the image.
FISHING TIP: We suggest you keep your bait off the bottom, either with a dropper rig or by raising the bait slightly off the bottom after your sinker has landed. Then keep the bait moving slowly as movement attracts fish far better than a static bait (the two senses that attract fish are smell and movement).
VERY IMPORTANT!
FISHING TIP WHEN USING ECOBAIT BAIT:
To get the best result when fishing with Ecobait bait, we suggest you use only one rod. Keep moving your bait slowly to draw attention to it. When a fish strikes Ecobait it may feel a bit foreign to them and so sometimes they spit the bait, similar to soft baits. So, treat the Ecobait in the same manner as a soft bait. It’s important to pay attention to your rod as much as possible. As soon as you feel the bite, strike your rod, to set the hook in the lip. Also, it’s best to keep some drag on your reel to minimise the fish run. The most successful fishing method is done by long line fishing operators where fish can’t run because the trace is very short. Do the same. Minimise the run!
Also, when putting the bait on the hook, it's best to put the hook through the fleshy part first.
• Non plastic soft baits and lures NOT AVAILABLE
From the above image you can see what can be created from a blank Ecosoftbait slab (as per image below). A variety of options: long strips, bait type options and lures etc.
It offer thick at one end, 10mm, and taping down to 2mm. Or 2mm thick all the way through to create a micro jig or bait. From a blank slab (see image below) you can customise to any shape and colour (with food dyes) you want. We will also offer the twin hooks (as pictured and quite expensive retail) as an added bonus!

Gelamax 360 allows us to produce a variety of non plastic soft baits, the only non plastic soft bait in the world, we believe. This is a world first which we are extremely proud of.
We incorporate a virtually indestructible biodegradable gauze material into these products making them extremely durable. Add the Fish Chocolate attractant and you've got the perfect lure. You can even add the Fish Chocolate attractant hours before use, allow to dry and when it goes into the water the attractant softens and emits flavour.
GO NON PLASTIC SOFTBAIT TO REDUCE PLASTIC POLLUTION
Currently we are marketing a new product and uncertain how to offer the Ecosoftbait, as options are endless: The blank tapered slab will make about five lures 170mm long. Or a blank 2mm thick slab will make any number depending on how big they are. We can pre-colour slabs and all that's required is to cut into any shape you prefer. At this initial stage we will leave it to our customers to request what they want in order for us to get an idea of preferred options. Either blank option, thick or thin, will be $10.00. Pre-coloured will be $14.00 and ensure you specify your colour preference. The colours on offer are Red, Orange, Green, Blue or Yellow.
